ABOUT THE COURSE

These medicinal mushroom courses will be hosted by Attila Fodi and facilitated by Marlow Renton on Zoom. You do not need a Zoom account to join.

Attila Fodi is one of the leading medicinal mushroom experts in the UK. Not only is he a mycologist specialising in Polypores, but he also has a chemistry qualification and he speaks and translates Chinese (among 8 other languages). He has studied in the Far East, where many of these medicinal mushrooms are used in mainstream hospital environments already, and he has a true passion for this topic!

Attila has also authored books on medicinal mushrooms in his native Hungarian, and we are currently working on one in English.

There really are few, if any people in the UK, more qualified to discuss medicinal mushrooms!

If you watch our YouTube channel you will know that he is quite camera shy too, so this is a special opportunity to learn the facts about medicinal mushrooms from this truly qualified specialist.

Marlow will simply be facilitating the event to help make sure it runs smoothly on Zoom and also helping with the Q&A at the end.

The three courses will cover 15 different fungi in total, with 5 in each course. We have chosen those fungi that we believe are most widely used or have the best potential medicinal benefits. We will talk about:

  • How to identify them, and their potential lookalikes
  • Their chemical compounds.
  • Their potential medicinal benefits and provenance.
  • How to prepare and use them for these purposes.

The courses will each be about 2 hours (sometimes possibly a bit longer).

During each course we are going to introduce 5 species:

Part 1 will cover: Turkey Tail, Maitake, Sang Huang, Willow Bracket and Hoof Fungus.

Part 2 will cover: Reishi, Chaga, Birch Polypore, Redbelted Brackets and Shiitake.

Part 3 will cover: Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Honey Fungus, Jelly Ear & Wood Ear and Enokitake.

Attila will go through each of their IDs and mycological descriptions, as there are many misconceptions about the scientific names and origins of some of the species.

Then we will discuss their biologically active compounds and the potential benefits of those.

We will also discuss their traditional applications and their role in modern, evidence-based mycotherapy.

Finally, we will be discussing how you can make some home remedies for yourself.

The courses are £25 per session, or you can purchase all 3 sessions for £60. Timings for the live sessions are 6pm – 8pm (approx.)

Disclaimer: Please bear in mind that Attila is not a physician, or a pharmacist, nor a nutritional therapist, so he won’t be able to prescribe you a therapy. Instead, he is going to inform about both the traditional and modern applications of the selected medicinal mushrooms. If you have any health problems, he always recommends that you talk to your GP, chemist or nutritional therapist.
